WEEKLY REFLECTIONS - Second Spell - Govt VHS &HSS for girls , Kottarakara


Week-1                                                                                    11-Nov-2016

This was a great week as we started with second spell of teaching practice in the Govt VHS &HSS for girls , Kottarakara. I along with my class mate Ms Sruthi , Ms Kavitha & MS Sruthi were allocated to Govt VHS &HSS for girls , Kottarakara , we reported to the school headmaster’s office on day-1 of the week . We were assigned with a teacher incharge.
The week was quite busy with many activities which included working along with the staffs of Govt VHSS & HSS Girls Kottarakara in organizing the school youth festival day , preparing students for the youth festival competition apart from our teaching activities in the allocated class VIII , IX and X standard . We three teacher trainees were also part of the judging panel. The students from VHSS school shown a better performance although overall everyone who participated did a good job and the audience was mesmerized by their talent and skill . Students from our school also got many prizes, it was a first co-curricular activity after we started our second spell of teaching practice there.
This week there was also a sub-district level quiz competition on history for which Govt VHSS & HSS Girls Kottarakara was the venue. We helped the students participating in the competition by guiding them on the areas to focus. We were also part of the organization committee of this quiz program. All the schools under the Kottarakara sub-district participated under three heads ( UP , HS and HSS) . Three teams were selected from each section for the district level competition.
 I had completed my sixth lesson plans within this week .With the support and co-operation by the teaching staffs we didn’t face any much difficulty in the new environment. Also it was too easy to cop-up with them and with the school staffs due to their positive & co-operative attitudes towards us .In the 1st spell I was in RVVHSS , Valakom when I compared with that , this school is very eco-friendly and teacher and students were very co-operative .
Since there was no English language teacher in the school we three teacher trainees were asked to take in charge of class VIII , IX and X English portion .The strength of teachers and students was very low , apart from there was not much strain to teach in the girls only school. When I had completed my 1st week in Govt. VH & HSS for girls I can tell that it was a nice environment as a teacher trainee.



Week-2                                                                                           18-Nov-2016

As it is an another Friday , today we had completed our 2nd  week in Govt VHSS & HSS for Girls , Kottarakara . In 14/11/2016 we had a special assembly conducted by class 10th students for celebrating the children’s day , in this week some students and teachers were little busy with sub-district level work experience competition and science exhibition. Some of them got prizes and selected for the next district level competition.
This week we conducted a one day silp-sala with the direction of Malayalam teacher. We conducted a class with the help of the instruction from the Vidya Rangam Kala Sahithi  , then we collected the students creations like stories , poetries , drawings etc ,  with these collected materials we made a magazine and named it “Darpanam”. The magazine got the first prize in the sub-district level . Every one become happy and the malayalam teacher brought some sweets.
In this week I got a new responsibility to train the selected participants to the sub-district level for the youth festival  , I taught a recitation and light music . By this week I have completed by eleven lesson plan and our concern teacher Ms Saumya & our general teacher Mrs Shalini visited to observe our class . They provided a positive feedback.
On Wednesday, there was an educational strike , due to which there was no class. however we were there in the school till 4pm and worked on our thesis research & lesson template . We conducted a diagnostic test also in this week.
            
Week-3                                                                                             02-Dec-2016

The third week started as teacher trainee in the in Govt VHSS & HSS for Girls , Kottarakara started after a break of 1 weeks. After 22nd we weren’t here for some days; because we had internals in our college. After the exams we resumed back to school on 29th ,November . There had an another program scheduled in this week. It was a social science quiz competition. It was also a sub district wise competition. There was participants from different school and was a tough competition , a boy from St. Mary’s HSS got 1st prize and was selected to participate in district level. It was a full day competition.
In this week our college principal Mr Sujeendran and our general class teacher Mr Syam visited to observe the classes. Other days of this week was also a little busy with the preparation for the youth festival for sub district level apart from our classes.
During this week the students strength became very low, because most of the students were busy with the practice for the youth festival. The competition was on 28th ,29th ,30th  November. I was also quite excited to know the result and tried to join as audience whenever get any free time. Most of the students whom I trained got  A grade in various items. So I was very happy. The cooking staff Mrs suma was also very helpful and loving to us  , many a times she use to prepare very tasty variety of foods and share it with us . Altogether it was an busy and interesting week for all of us and we enjoyed our busy schedules.

Week-4                                                                                      09-Dec-2016

Today was the end of my 20th working day in Govt HSS& VSS for Girls, Kottarakara and was our last day before the Christmas exams. I tried my best to prepare students for the exams scheduled in the next week.
    This week there was no cultural or extra-curricular activity, everyone was busy with the exam preparations. All the teachers & teacher trainees were busy to complete their Christmas exam portions.
This week two new teacher trainees from Vendar B Ed college joined. They were very friendly and helpful. Some of the duties and responsibilities we redistributed which helped in bring down the work load among each of us , we helped the new teacher trainees to get familiar with the school environment .  We conducted some special grammar training classes for the class Xth students as per the instruction of our teacher incharge , thus we covered the few of the pending lessons and grammar portions.

Week-5                                                                                           06-Jan-2017

Today was the 25th day in the school Govt VHS & HSS Girls , Kottarakara , we were here from 3rd January after our Christmas vacation  .
Due to a D-eD exam scheduled this week , most of the class rooms and the rooms allocated to us were allocated for conducting the exam , thus we were accommodated in the teachers staff room . This helped us to get much closer to the staffs of Govt VHS & HSS Girls , Kottarakara. . This week we were busy with preparing and collecting materials and data for our mini project  during the non-teaching hours. Also since only a few more days were left in the teaching practice assignment we were busy with completing the portions & chapters of class VIII , IX and X.
This week one of the staff Mrs Usha was left the school to take charge of vallanad High Secondary school as Head Master  , there was a small  farewell function organized and we were also invited to take part  .A new hindi teacher joined the school from Karungapalli ,however  after three days she again got transfer to a school in Kottayam and later another teacher came as a permanent Hindi teacher. One day Mrs. Suma our cooking staff had some health problem so we joined her and helped her in the preparation of lunch . My concerned teacher had given us the examination papers for the correction. I got the paper of English from the standard X . I also spent time this week for preparing questionnaire for the achievement test.
By this week , I had completed 26 lesson plan .
This week alike other weeks were little busy with lot of unscheduled programs and activities, but we enjoyed each and every minutes in the school with the teacher and our students as teacher trainee.

Week-6                                                                                            13-Jan-2017

It is our 30th or last day in our school Govt VHS & HSS Girls , Kottarakara. Today it was the last day of our second spell as  teaching trainee. As similar to the last few weeks , we had busy schedules and had lot of programs and activities . All the portions were completed and we helped students for preparing themselves for the their final exams especially the Xth students by revisiting some of the tough & grey areas where students were facing difficulty in understanding, we also conducted some revision classes.
This week we conducted achievement test and the conscientization ‎ program .Students from class VIII and IX attended the conscientization ‎ program .The awareness topic was the negative impact of the social media among high school girl students . We got a new experience through the program and the students also post the session expressed positive feedback.
As today was our last day we distributed some sweets to the students and arranged a small party for teaching and non-teaching staffs. We conducted this party as a gratitude to the support , guidance & help provided by the staffs of Govt VHS & HSS Girls , Kottarakara . Surprisingly  they also gave us a farewell party and arranged some snacks for all of us .We become very happy to know that all of the staffs of Govt VHS & HSS Girls , Kottarakara liked us and they were very much satisfied with our class and teaching .
Our second spell of teaching practice at Govt VHS & HSS Girls , Kottarakara came to an end with an ever remembering set of experience and learnings .I enjoyed each day of my teaching practice.
While following the reflection exercise on daily & weekly basis, I understood its importance in teaching, it helped jot notes down in a journal stating difficulties, good ideas, and successful lessons. I know I will continue this practice after I graduate from the B-Ed program

Teacher divides the students into two group , Group- A and Group-B .
 Teacher  :  Now let us conduct a quiz , I will be the quiz master and will ask you some question related to the passage which we have just gone through. You can discuss within your group and respond appropriately
 Teacher  :  Who is the writer of the story  ( to group-A)
 Pupil      : William Shakespeare
 Teacher  :  Who is William Shakespeare ( to group-B)
 Pupil      : William Shakespeare is the poet , dramastic
 Teacher  :  Who is introduced in the first paragraph of the story  “The merchant of Venice” ( to group-A)
Group-A didn’t respond the right answer so the question is passed to Group-B
Pupil  from Group-B gave the right answer.

All the question & answers were then written on the blackboard .
Teacher : Group-B leads in the competition so group-B si the answer .
Pupil     : They applauded the members of group-B and clapped for them.
Teacher : We will continue the story and quiz in the next class , the winner group will get the prizes at the end of chapter.

Students joined their coresponding group and gone through the given paper.

Teacher ask the students some questions like :
1) What is the difference between the sentences from the 3 boxes ?
2) Do you know the tenses ?
Students responded to the teachers question positively.
Section-4
Teacher shows 3 flash cards containing 3 tenses and its forms and passes to each group.


Students  carefully watched  the flash card and carefully listened to the instructions

Teacher provided some examples from each tenses by using blackboard
Students listned carefully and noted down it in their notebook.

Teacher played some audio clippings which emphazize on use of tenses . Teacher asks the students to identify the form of tense used in the audio clip .
Students listned the audio clip and tried to answer to the question asked by teacher on tenses

Teacher hand over a another set of flashcard containing some new sentences to each group and asks them to find out the tenses.




Students actively participated in group works and found the tenses but this time it was much easier for the students as they were now familiar with the exercise.
Section-8
Teacher asks everyone to disperse from group to there seats and asks them to write some sample sentenses individually using the three tenses
Students makes sentenses correctly.
Section-9
Teacher ask the students to swap their notebooks with the students siting next to them and ask them to correct it
Students followed the instruction and corrected the answer.

Teacher provided a note containing  detail of tenses , its usage and few sample

Make five sentences for each of the three tense form.
